It’s much, much pinker in person than online

Did they change the formula since using these photos? I saw the photos online, both here and places like Instagram, and it seemed to be just the type of polish I’ve been looking for. Even when I went to the store to buy it and saw it under the store display lights, while it wasn’t exactly as coppery as pictured it still looked so nice. To my surprise the polish was pink when I pulled it from the bag at home. Not coppery pink, not rose gold, but a metallic cooler toned pink. Even my husband was confused. We checked the label, it was correct. It dried even pinker on my nails, hardly any gold or copper tones at all. Pretty disappointed, won’t be buying again

No chipping if applied without base or top coats.

I had the same issue with chipping the first time around but it’s a great color so I wanted to stick with it. Second time I decided to skip the base and top layers because for some reason it just felt right and this color dries incredibly fast compared to anything else I've used before. When i used this nail polish the second time around I did three thin coats, and each coat I let dry completely or close to before applying the next coat. I decided to do it this way because of how fast it dries. It worked perfectly - I’ve gone two weeks with very minimal chipping, and nothing really visible for the first 8 or 9 days. I’m also very active. Try applying it this way and see if it works for you.

Went on very thick, yet the application remained smooth. Like the coral varnish this one only require one coat and remained vibrant. A very up to date and modern tone can be worn with most clothing items from day to night.

Pretty, but Problematic

So I got this and I was surprised at the lack of quality because I expect much better from Essie. The color is pretty but I'll probably be buying a rose gold polish elsewhere, and you should too. The problems I had were:
-it shows every ridge in your nail. I had to buff mine down so much.
-even when my nails were totally smooth, the polish still showed brush stroke lines.
-this starts chipping really bad really fast, and even kind of rubs off. No longevity at all.
-it made my cuticles look weirdly dark

This is a beautifully lustrous shade, with a molten metallic sheen. The colour is like a light burnished copper, veering towards a rose gold but with less blush tones. It's not at all glittery, just beautifully metallic, and it looks gorgeous when worn with earth tones clothing and makeup. It would be a great summer beach nail colour against tanned skin but it also looks nice against my pale skin. Ensure that you use a top coat, though, otherwise it dulls down and wears off within a couple of days.

Striking copper-rose gold, but peels off

I got this one since it was a "cult classic" and I was craving a metallic for fall. Admittedly it's not quite the right shade for me - the warmth and rose seem to clash a bit with my skin's cooler undertones but since I'm on the medium-dark side it's not too bad. I used a base coat and top coat. The problem is that it not just chipped, but peeled off in big chunks within hours. I will try it again with base coat and top coat but I think there are better metallic shades and formulas out there.

Gorgeous metalic gold

I always find Essie expensive, but in this case it's worth the cost. I've been looking for a rose-gold polish for a while and this one is elegant and can be worn on the weekends and at the office. It's natural, but glamorous at the same time. It's kind of a silvery-gold colour which is neutral so if you want to mix it with another colour it fits with everything. I've paired it with both black and hot pink and love how it looks. It also dries faster than I expected which is always nice.

First off, this polish has quirks. Metallic and chrome polishes like to chip, and they don't like base coats. I would recommend trying to put on some form of top or clear coat on after two thin coats of Penny Talk, as that's what I've found works best for me. The color is beautiful, and (I think) wearable on all skin tones, for all occasions! I would recommend this for anyone who wants a color that's a little different, without taking a plunge into some of the really dramatic colors!

Terribly disappointing!

I was SO excited about this colour, I LOVE rose gold, and I LOVE essie, but penny talk has been a complete failure for me. Even with an excellent base coat, two coats of colour and perfect top coat, it barely lasts a single day! not to mention that the application process is a nightmare. It streaks, bubbles and pulls base coat and colour off with each stroke. Really, I couldn't be more disappointed with this. Not sure I'll try Essie again for metalics. Not worth the disappointment.

I love this shade. I'm a pale-skinned neutral girl and this tone is lovely on. It's no where near intense enough to be considered a copper color and the shimmer is definitely silvery, which is what makes it perfect for those of us with both warm and cool tones. It's light enough to wear to work. The one thing is, it is quite thin and like all foils, it will show every imperfect your nails have, so do use a ridge-filler if that's an issue. And topcoat is an absolute must.

Beautiful colour, but streaky formula :(

The colour of this is so gorgeous – I just love the rich, coppery, rose gold tones. However, the polish itself was very streaky when applied. I could never get the even, brushed-metal look that I wanted. Furthermore, my nails have a lot of horizontal ridges and bumps, and the polish really emphasized that. I love the colour, but wish there was a way that the formula could be improved.

I really like this shade, it’s defo a bronze rather than a rose gold so don’t get confused as I did. That said, it is still absolutely beautiful. I love this one on my toes, and if the sun decides to grace the UK at all I’m sure it would look amazing with a tan.
The formula is fantastic, long lasting, easy to apply and super quick drying time - what more could a girl want! I’ve never had a bad polish from Essie, they are easy the best on market right now.

Maybe I got a bad batch or something because this is quite possibly the WORST essie polish I have ever used (and I own easily a couple dozen colors). But it's streaky and clumpy and it is sooooo hard to apply evenly. Even with a good base and top coat, I can barely get it to look halfway normal which is really disappointing because I am a huge fan of this color. I wish it performed half as well as the metallics from Orly. But this was a complete dud for me.

I'm giving this 2.5 stars because the color alone is just a stunner; however, without a top coat this will start fading/rubbing off (not really chipping) in a couple hours. With a top coat, it still doesn't last very long, unfortunately (2-3 days). I would recommend though simply based on the color and shine of it. Gets lots of compliments, but I've never seen a polish fade SO FAST. Definitely needs a quality top coat to last beyond the morning.

I absolutely love this rose gold/copper color!! It goes on smoothly but will show every line and imperfection. That being said, the color is worth it! Don't use this color as a quick application. Give yourself the time to do a proper manicure and there won't be any issues! I did not have issues with chipping but I put a top coat on every other day and that may be helpful for this one! LOVE LOVE LOVE!! Great color even for court each day!

Colour is perfect!

I love this colour "penny talk" it's exactly what I imagined it would look like. This colour was ideal for a night out or for work as it's stand out but not glaring.
The brush on this set of polish has a grwat shame it allows for one swipe coverage.
One coat gave a solid coat, I applied two with base and top coat. Thus looked like a professional result. Genuinely impressed woth final look.

I love Essie polishes and have quite a few, but Penny Talk is one of the few I've returned. As noted in other reviews, it chips very quickly and easily. I don't think my manicure lasted a day, even with a topcoat! I had the same problem with another metallic finish one as well. I also don't like the glitter finish of the "Luxeffects" polishes, so I'll stick with the regular ones from now on.

I actually use nail polish for my fingernails and ARTworks. I love to 'color' on paper with nailpolish as it's easy, comes with it owns 'brush' and I can only get the metallic colors with nail polish's. This one goes on easy and smooth with a quick dry so it works really well. Doesn't really stay on my fingernails for long but that's a side note that I don't use nail polish for much.

Wanted to Love this so bad!

I've been looking for a soft metallic shade and thought I'd found it with this. The color itself is gorgeous. My complaint is the way it goes on. It looks streaky and just not clean at all. I've ended up using it for a pedicure but as many times as I've tried it on my hands (doing it myself and at the salon) it never comes out looking nice. The hunt continues :-(

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I like Penny Talk (I just repurchased a second bottle) but it has a couple flaws. The most noticeable is that it goes on striped with each brushstroke; you can see little parallel metallic streaks, instead of one smooth copper surface. Other reviewers have said it chips, which is true but doesn't bother me, as I think that can be fixed with a strong topcoat.

I bought this color after seeing it on pinterest and falling hard for it. Its metallic sheen is what makes it pretty but also makes it necessary to apply 2 solid coats of the somewhat streaky color. If it came out as a cream instead of a frost it would be easier to apply, but I haven't seen a shade this pretty in a metallic in Essie before; hence the review.

I love the color, super pretty, and it applies very smoothly. It's my go-to toe polish but I just can't keep it from chipping on my fingernails, even when I use the same base/top-coat process as I do with other brands or even other essie polishes. It's great if you don't want to keep it on for more than a day or two, or if you're just using it on your toes.

Nice colour but lots of coats

This product looked lovely on the photo - it looks lovely in the bottle but it goes on almost completely translucent. I don't know how many coats it would take to get nails looking like they do from the picture of the bottle. It is a nice, subtle colour, but not what I was expecting. Its so pale I don't think I'll ever use it - it might work as a top coat.

Not what I expected from Essie

I couldn't believe it when a friend said this color was terrible - I own more than 60 Essie shades, and they're all incredible. So I tried it. Very difficult to apply without streaks or clumps, and sometimes a brush stroke would drag the polish right off the nail. A topcoat didn't improve the uneven look, and it was chipped by the next morning.

When it comes to the name Essie now I can blindly recommend this brand to my all friends and family and everyone reading my review. Great color, hard to make even

I've always found metals hard to work with but I decided the color of this one made it worth a shot. It applies very evenly but requires two coats to make it completely smooth. However any dents in the nail or bubbles in the polish show through. Overall though I like the color and the texture of the polish is something I can live with :)

I recieved this product free for review. Definitely a chrome polish so if that is what you want, give this a try! Goes from deeper gold to a rose gold depending on the lighting. I didn't like how it looked streaky even after the second coat. I might try again for Christmas or NYE but this is not going to be a regular polish for me.

I bought this yesterday and had to give it a try. my nails usually show texture through metallics so I added penny talk over the color I had already been wearing. it is showing some small cracks at the nail edge but is holding up well. the bottle showed some swirls of silver but the polish went on solid in one coat.

I typically avoid metallics as they just aren’t my thing. But this one caught my attention so I figured what the heck, it can’t hurt to add a metallic to my collection. I was pleasantly surprised when I’d finished to realize it’s a gorgeous rose gold colour! I’m definitely glad I decided to purchase this colour!

Love the color and finish but it's a little hard to apply evenly. It does have a lot of coverage with one coat but it's very streaky on natural nails. I recommend to polish your natural nails very well before applying this nail polish to get an even and smooth finish or for even better over gel/acrylic nails.

I have recently tried this nail polish by Essie and it's great, a really lovely colour.
I applied two coats and it covered really well with a lovely touch of sparkle to it. It's quite long lasting and it didn't easily chip.
I would definitely recommend trying as I was really impressed with the quality.

The penny talk bronze nail polish is an instant classic. The shade is just right, not too dark, and not too brown. One coat has a great coverage of the nail, but a second can be added for a long lasting finish. Plus the shade goes well with a variety of colours, perfect for colour matching to your outfit.

I own over 40 Essie polishes,and I love them all. Penny talk is my favorite because it's edgy yet girly. It looks great with light outfits and dark outfits. I can wear it to my office and when I go out at night. It's a great metallic that doesn't look too trendy or outrageous. I get tons of compliments!

Not as pink as you might hope

Having bought a goldy metallic polish from another brand, I decided I wanted a pinky metallic polish and Penny Talk seemed to be the one. When I got it, it came out gold. Not very pink at all. I was very excited to receive this product, so I am quite disappointed that it's not as it appears online.

Pretty but chips horribly

Bought the penny talk shade and wax so excited to receive it but was quickly disappointed. It’s such a pretty color but the next day after application, it chipped. I had applied both a base and top coat and two coats of color. I expected more from Essie and the fact that’s I paid 8$ for it.

This is my favourite nail varnish now, the colour is gorgeous, it looks really lovely on.
It goes on with one sweep of the brush, i loved how easy it was, no mess over the edges.
I think 2 coats is enough. Everything about this nail varnish i really love. Not too thin, not too thick.

Did not suit my colouring

Unfortunately its a lovely shade but did not suit my darker skin tone, it did last well and the shade is quite a classic. The staying power was what was expected and happy with the results even after several days it did not chip and my hands are in and out of water a lot at the moment.
Yes, I recommend this product.
