Good shine but formula is weird

So far for me, this is still the best top coat in terms of chipping and shine. My only issue is that after some use it gets really goopy, and stringy-- and becomes a nightmare to work with. Literally strings of product stretch out of the bottle connected to the brush, the formula becomes goopy, and the combined problems often messes up my nails. To fix it, I have to make sure I get extra product on the brush for just a few strokes. The purchase ends up being waste of money, as I can only get through about half the bottle before it gets goopy and stringy. I've tried multiple bottles and I still get the same result in the end.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Compared to the other topcoats I've used (Seche Vive, Seche Vite, Out the Door), this is my favorite. It is durable, dries very quickly, and is super shiny. It has the fantastic new(ish) brush which is wider than the original Essie brush. Unlike Seche Vite and some other topcoats, it doesn't shrink and pull back the polish from the edges of the nail as it dries. Like most super quick-drying polishes, the solvents evaporate so quickly that the product gets overly thick and syrupy before you use it all. So be prepared to either toss the last 1/4 of the bottle or add a few drops of nail polish thinner.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have always been a fan of Essie nail polish, but the last year or so I’ve really gotten into various gel nail polishes. Unfortunately, they totally mess up my nails if I paint them a few times in a row with no break. So I decided to try this Essie gel-setter top coat. It went on easily, dried quickly, and looked great straight away. I waited to see if it would last and I am on day 5 right now and it’s only just started to chip a bit at the edges. It also doesn’t peel like the gel polish so even if it chips a bit it still looks ok and I’m not tempted to start peeling (part of why gel polish messes up my nails so bad). Overall very happy with this top coat and want to try it with more colors.

I love that this Essie Gel Setter Top Coat gives me that glossy look of gel, without the additional time and hassle of using actual gel nail polish and curing with a UV lamp. I usually apply a base coat, then a couple coats of nail polish (drying between each one), then finally one coat of this on top. My nails still look great even though normally it would have been a chipped mess by now. It’s silly how such a simple thing can bring me so much happiness! Love this product!

Survives a nurse’s week with no problem.

I am a nurse and do not get gel nails for a few different reasons relating to my job, but I still want a manicure that looks good and stays looking good. I wash my hands or use hand sanitizer more times in a day than I can count, and after 3 days in a row, prior manicures were removed after the second day because of how bad they looked. This top coat, when all layers are given a chance to dry, helps my nails survive not only a 3-in-a-row, but my days off as well. Sure, a little chipping happens, but when you use and wash your hands constantly, it’s a small price to pay. 100% recommend this top coat to anyone who doesn’t want to pay salon prices (or doesn’t have the time) and wants a gel finish manicure that lasts.

I’ve tried all different brands of topcoats from cheap to expensive and I return to this every time. It’s practically indestructible. I get 8 to 9 days out of my at home manis and this product stays on till you take it off. Zero chipping or peeling. I’m rough on my hands and constantly wash them due to my job and it holds up like a champ. As for the bad reviews about this product I would just chalk that up to user error. I’ve told everyone about this product and recommend you try it. I use on my natural nails and nail art. It’s a holy grail product for me!

**This is NOT a gel top coat. It is a normal top coat with a "gel-like finish"**
I usually only get 2-3 days before my nails begin to chip or peel with other top coats.
This has a stunning shiny finish, it feels nice and thick with a single coat, it dries relatively quick & lasts so long!
I swatched a few new polishes (of a different brand), along with this being my first time trying the gel setter top coat. The polish is still going strong without a single chip for 7 days now! (with this base, nail polish & a different top coat I usually only get 3 days before a chip or peel happens)
It is important to note, I prepped my nails with a dehydrator, used long lasting a base coat, 2 coats of polish and 1 coat of this top coat.

I love this top coat. Its quick drying and gives a high gloss shine to the manicure. I have used it a few times. It works really well as compared to some popular quick drying top coats like Seche vite. I will not be buying it again though because the product thickens when you are half way through the bottle and every time you try to apply it, there are strings coming off the brush and the application is not easy. But while the consistency lasted, it was a wonderful top coat. And for stamping addicts, it will not smudge your nail design.

Nails are popping!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have always been an Essie lover, almost all the nail polish I have is Essie. I was super excited when I saw this gel-setter top coat! I love going to the nail salon for a mani-pedi, however it can get pricy and it doesn't always turn out perfect. This top coat is amazing! After using an Essie colored polish, I put this gel-setter on top, no other products needed. It plumps up my nails and gives them a professional gel look. It also lasts for quite a while. Typically regular nail polish for me will last a few days maybe a week if I don't do anything strenuous with my hands. But this top coat is still on, with no chipping for over a week already! I absolutely love it! It also comes off way easier than traditional gel polish. I would highly recommend!

I bought this product 2 months ago. I LOVE it!! It can be used with any nail polish and leaves you with a perfect gel manicure that lasts a week or more. I'm a janitor and a mechanic. That being said; I use my hands vigorously and brutalize them with harsh chemicals, frequently use hand sanitizers and wash them rigorously dozens of times a day. My nail polish doesn't chip, wear or fade out for at least 7 days. I'm hooked on this product and will never stop using it as long as it's being sold in Canada. I've saved myself hundreds of dollars from not having to go to the nail salon to get a gel manicure by using Essie gel setter top coat. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this product to anyone who's looking for a perfect, long lasting gel manicure for an amazing price.

The absolute BEST top coat on the market!

I am an indie nail art lover, but also someone who works in surgery, so I am not allowed to wear gel polish or acrylic nails. Prior to finding this bottle, I used Mooncat’s Speed Demon topcoat, which I absolutely loved, but hated how it would get thick, stringy and virtually unusable after just two or three uses. I consulted people in the nail polish community and Essie Gel Setter Top Coat was the name that kept coming up. I bought a bunch of different brands to trial, from Sally Hansen to KB Shimmer and everything in between. Essie was a clear winner and now I understand why. If you like that crystal clear, glossy, plump, hard like glass finish then you won’t be disappointed with this one! It also dries pretty fast considering, and won’t shrink or crack the polish underneath.

Forever to dry, bubbles, peels off

I thought I had purchased this in the past and lived it, but maybe it was a different brand? It was a “gel” inspired topcoat, but it had a wide brush that covered almost the whole nail in one swoop, dried quickly, and lasted forever.
My current experience has been terrible. Takes forever to dry..and if/when it does, it bubbles, and peels within a day or two. It gets stringy, and once half the bottle is used (I kept trying, thinking I had not allowed enough time for the color to dry), it s totally useless because it’s too thick. If you don’t paint the whole nail in one swoop (nearly impossible Ron o because the brush isn’t ok small), then Everything gets lumpy. not sureness if the good reviews are coming from using s prior version of this product, like the one I might have tried?

this is really really really good for blending and and it's a really easy tool and it's really cheap and we'll not only is it soft but it's really pretty and i use this on my face a lot plus it's very light and soft so that's great and this is an amazing product and it comes in a set of you can buy it secretly so that's really good and it's smooth and works really well and it's not ruff or tacky from the brush doesn't come out so that's really good and it lasts a long time so that's really good

I don’t know why anyone would leave anything below 5 stars! I’ve had 2 coats of essies nail polish and 1 coat of essie gel setter top coat on for a week. In that week I have cleaned up my yard (mowing, raking, pulling weeds, etc), painted a room, cleaned my house (including scrubbing the bathroom), worked on a keyboard five days a week at my job. Check out the pictures to see what they look like after all that...a true testament to how great this nail polish truly is. Pictures say it all!

I just wanted to take a moment to give credit where credit is due. I bought this gel-setter topcoat by at the drugstore. I applied two coats over my three coats of regular crème polish. I used it on my vacation nails and my manicure lasted 11 days with minimal chipping. To me, this is outstanding because during my vacation I was in the ocean and the hot tub. I built Sandcastles. I did anything and everything I wanted to do, so I feel that they held up fairly well. So kudos to you Essie!

I love this top coat so much. I do find that I have to close the bottle & re-shake it during applications, especially if the room I’m in is warm while I’m painting my nails, or else it gets thick & gloppy. Don’t leave the bottle sitting in the sun while painting your nails, either. It looks amazing after it goes on, and keeps my glitter polish exactly where I put it, without me having to worry if the top coat is thick enough to protect the glitter. I’ll never use another top coat again.

Honestly, I loved this purchase when I first got it. Looked great and lasted long. Unfortunately, after a few uses, the polish has dried/hardened in the bottle. Now it all comes out goopy with stringiness clinging to the brush so your nails end up getting a thick, bubbly and uneven top coat.
I really wish this stuff would last more than a few applications. Its not worth buying a whole bottle for 1 month of use, especially when its supposed to last so long between applications.

How long are you expected to wait for this to dry? I've loved my essie products in the past but have had to remove nail polish twice now after trying to use this one. I'll often paint my nails at night (base coat, two layers of colour, top coat) and wait about an hour between application of the top coat and going to bed. Both times I've woken up with noticeable creases and dents on the polish and ended up wishing I hadn't used a top coat at all. I will not be buying this again

I’ve finally been able to grow my nails out! I painted the last night and omg I got this Essie gel top coat at ulta on clearance (75% off clearance price) it came to like $2 anyways it is hands down the best top coat I have ever used. The last time I used it my nails did not chip at all until I took the polish off! And I am lucky if my polish would last 2-3 days before this. This stuff is truly amazing! If you haven’t tried it yet then you are seriously missing out!

I am so disappointed I spent any money on this. I figured I would give it a try because I like the polish as a whole and I wanted to give my nails a break after having the professional done. After less than 24 they are chipped and peeling like crazy. I figured with the “gel like finish” it would be sturdy then everyday activities. I’d also like to add I have already repaint my thumbs before this picture was taken. So don’t waste your time or money on this top coat.

This keep my polish on longer than a standard topcoat, however if you work with your hands a lot or just busy with everyday chores, I noticed the polish would chip / peel. Not quite the same as a gel that is set onto the nail with a nail light. Great if you are wearing it for an event. should last the weekend.

Picture of my nails one Day after applying. It loosens at rhe tip of the nail, and you can simply peel off the whole thing in one piece. Super dissapointing since it gives the nails a really awesome shine and makes the nails feel super strong.
Ps: in this picture i'm not wearing nail polish underneath it. I have however tried it with Essies "sip sip hooray" during my wedding Day, with the same result. The nailpolish fell off along with it.

I naturally have ridges in my nails and this top coat makes my nail beds perfectly smooth. The formula looks thick but it’s really not. I paint two coats of my nail color, then one coat of this gel-setter top coat. It dries super fast and is strong. This is better than gel nails in my opinion, this won’t damage your natural nail bed.

so your nail polish does not chip, break or come
off. The gel satter also makes your nail polish or manicure look shiny and like you just had your nails done. I would not use nail polish without
putting the gel setter on after my manicurre. It is the finishing touch!

I finally gave up trying to find a quality manicurist so now I do my own nails with the Gel setter top coat over my regular nail polish. It lasts a week even after doing dishes and working in a hospital. It is very forgiving when it dries covering up minor polish flaws and it dries fast. Be worn it goes on thick and goopy but turns out beautiful with a high shine, everyone thinks I have gel polish. See pic below after one week!

Within 3 days it has started to chip other than the short life, it is a amazing setter! For it to be gel it does set very quickly. Within a minute it was completely dry and non tacky. It doesn’t leave a lingering smell like the off brand gels so either. It’s shine is fantastic! I will definitely be buying more colors from this brand!

Very Good Top Coat

I really love this top coat. I just did a manicure about a week and a half ago and I do not have any chips at all. If I used the Stay Longer which I have had in the past this manicure would not have lasted this long and I love how the Gel Setter protects longer and still stays shiny as well. I will always buy this as my top coat. I don't know why people say that this top coat is not good at all because to me it is.

I bought this at the beginning of quarentine and i thought that i wouldn't really need to use it after i finally did to do my nails. It was a GAME CHANGER!!! my nails looked like they had gel on the and the felt like it did too. and the dry time is inasne it like 5 minutes and your done and it really is worth the extra money for a top coat. it also helps seal the nail polish so the color doesn't chip!

However I really liked how it shined! I was able to have a nice pedi at home without the price tag. I will say, grab a fan or at least have your drink and snacks close by. It does smuge easy so you will want to remain still till it dries! Over all I would say that this 4stars.

I received this product a few days ago for my birthday and applied it the next day. I didn't have too many expectations, figuring it was like any other nail polish. A few days later, and I'm outside breaking up ice with literal rocks and shovels, completely forgetting that I had this on. I wasn't exactly being gentle, and the rocks scratched my hands multiple times. Imagine my surprise when I went inside to see my polish COMPLETELY INTACT. No scratches, chips, flakes OR peeling. Every other nail polish that I've used, even ones that are "as hard as nails" have chipped, peeled ect. escpecially as I ride horses. Naturally, I was BLOWN AWAY by this product, and immediately sat down to write this review. If you want a top coat that'll actually protect your nails, this is the only one I'm recommending and the only one that I'm EVER buying again. 15/5 stars. This is a truly above and beyone product.

I have tried several different gel options for at home use. I’ve tried this top coat twice thinking I didn’t let the polish dry enough. So I retried it again today and I had the same results. Every nail smudged. It has been hours and still hasn’t cured. So disappointed.

I've been using this top coat now for a year, it's long lasting and makes my nails shine and it's long lasting. I've read comments saying it's goopy and thick, I find if that happens with nail polish, place it in the refrigerator, it helps! You can also put a tiny drop of nail polish remover in the bottle to break up any thickness as well, hope this helps!

I’ve tried MANY top coats over the years and I love this one. It makes the varnish super shiny and fit at least a week. I loved the gel setter 3D pop tints, too. this is the only varnish I’ve used the entire bottle of. Ok, if you don’t use a quality varnish, you may get a tiny bit of peeling so, use Essie varnish, too. it’s definitely a great product.

So, I have the other gel top coat from Essie but this one takes the cake! My nails have little to no chips for days, and glossy shine! I have only used it so far with other Essie brand (non-gel) polishes (my fave Leggy Legend, which is a hyper metallic bronze, and Buy Me A Cameo, a stunning metallic oyster pearl!). This is a decent product, for sure.

A gel topcoat keeps them in better condition. Essie gel setter isn’t quite as good as a gel coat, but you don’t use the lamp and all that. It does keep the polish better than without or even a regular topcoat.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've tried other gel top coats before that didnt end up working really well but this surprised me quite a bit! the application was really nice and gave me a pretty thick glossy top coat that made my nails feel quite a bit stronger. The polish only lasts about 3 days before chipping, but better than the 1 day it would last without the gel top coat.
Yes, I recommend this product.
